Custom Software Toolkits

Wow! Build your own custom software system
It's been our experience over the years that most people who buy computer management programs almost never use all the features or even all the modules they paid for. The problem is the system just doesn't work the way you want. It doesn't "fit" your operation. Often only minor adjustments can make nearly unusable software fit like a glove. It's like the difference between a rented tuxedo that might fit someone else, and a tailored suit that fits you just right.
The fly in the ointment is that software changes can be expensive and time consuming.
While we don't have all the answers, we have been working on this problem for several years. Now with the tight integration of Windows with Microsoft Office and Visual Basic, we're finally seeing an environment where these computers are beginning to  realize the potential of what is possible.
At the same time the programming paradigm has changed radically. In the past, programs were monolithic. That is they were written in one block that contained all the code. Gradually programmers developed libraries and reusable blocks of code. Today programs use libraries and controls, sort of black boxes that perform the heavy lifting. So rather than spaghetti code that does the entire job, you set some values then activate these functions. They do whatever work they do, and set return values or create output based on the task.
Two major benefits: 1) Very efficient because the complex parts of the program are written by highly skilled programmers. They can be tested, tightened, and debugged so they tend to be more robust, then made into a library; 2) Makes incredible programming power available to less skilled programmers.
Here's where we plan to go with this. In the conversion from DOS to Windows we accomplished about 80% of the division of code to library files. Actually we used libraries extensively in the DOS system. In the coming months we plan to refine those libraries and make them available as building blocks for a custom system. Sort of like an erector set for software. We will also provide the source code to things like menus, reports, and the interface to those building blocks. You can use the whole thing as a stock system, or you can use whatever parts work for you, and customize those parts you want changed to better fit your needs.
Obviously this requires someone on your end who can do Visual Basic programming. I wouldn't guarantee that anyone could do it, but Visual Basic will let anyone with reasonable logic create powerful programs. We will also provide visual tutorials to guide you through all the essential tasks.
You don't need to do any power programming, since that is all encapsulated in the libraries and controls. And you will have existing source code as a guide. Modifying and maintaining existing code is much much easier than creating code from scratch. Trust me.
It's time to rethink everything. The future is here. Now.
Well OK, maybe in a couple of months.
Much more to come. If you think you might be interested in this concept, we'll be happy to add you to an email list to receive updates from time to time. Just click here.
